OPP media release follows:
(KENORA, ON) - Members of the Kenora Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Forensic Identification Unit (FIU), Kenora Crime Unit, Kenora Street Crime Unit, Emergency Response Team (ERT), Technical Traffic Collision Investigation (TTCI) and Treaty Three Police Service are continuing their investigation into a sudden death that occurred on September 1, 2015.
At approximately 11:30 p.m on September 1, 2015, police received a call regarding a suspicious vehicle leaving Wauzhushk Onigum First Nation(Rat Portage). The vehicle was located travelling on the north side of the city and police activated the emergency lights. The suspect vehicle proceeded to Highway 17A and a Suspect Apprehension Pursuit (SAP) ensued. Several minutes later the suspect vehicle came to a stop at the junction of Highway 17A and Highway 596. A deceased male was located on the highway at the scene
A post mortem was conducted on Friday, September 4, 2015 at the Office of the Chief Coroner and Forensic Pathology Services in Toronto, Ontario.
The deceased male was identified as 27 year old Arnold FOX of Wauzhushk Onigum (Rat Portage) First Nation.
A male youth, who was operating the vehicle, was arrested at the scene and transported to the Kenora Detachment.
The youth was charged with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada:
· Impaired Operation of a Vehicle Cause Death-Alcohol
· Exceed 80 Milligrams of Blood Alcohol Content-Cause Accident with Fatality
· Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Death
· Flight Causing Bodily Harm while Pursued by Peace Officer
· Driving while Disqualified- court order
· Fail to Comply with Sentence X 2 contrary to the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA)
On November 10, 2015, the young offender was also charged with Manslaughter.
The youth remains in custody with a court date of November 27, 2015 at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Kenora.
The investigation is continuing under the direction of Detective Inspector Peter Donnelly of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).
