Charity prom dress event ready for May sale

The high school prom season is approaching and once again a local charity is helping ladies get a chance to buy a dress at a low price.
The high school prom season is approaching and once again a local charity is helping ladies get a chance to buy a dress at a low price.

The second annual Gowns with a Cause dress sale is encouraging donations of gently used dresses of any size, style, and colour. The Canada Games Complex is one of the drop-off locations.

The idea came about last year when two women realized they had several dresses that had only been worn once, and probably would never be used again. The goal is to recycle those gowns, and help girls and women have an affordable option for their own prom.

Organizer Kayla Kannegiesser says the dresses will be available for $20 apiece, and there are other items available as well.

This year's gown sale is being held on May 8 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Current River Community Centre, and women of all ages are invited to shop.

All proceeds are being donated to the acquired brain injury department of St. Joseph's Care Group.
