SHUNIAH – A chemical spill from a commercial motor vehicle kept Shuniah Fire and Emergency Services busy for a short time on Saturday afternoon.

The spill occurred behind the Flying J at 3200 Highway 11/17 at around 5:30 p.m.

According to a Facebook post, Shuniah Fire and Emergency Services established a perimeter around the spill and all entrances to the Flying J were temporarily blocked for safety reasons.

“They thought it was more serious than it was,” said Sal Oliveira, on-duty manager at the Flying J, adding that police also responded.

No one needed a hazmat suit, he said.

Oliveira said it was a transport truck that had a minor spill.

“It was just drips,” he said.

The store re-opened around 6 p.m.
