Chief of Superior North EMS appointed

June 17, 2016 – The City of Thunder Bay is pleased to announce that after a thorough and rigorous search, Wayne Gates has been selected as the Chief of Superior North Emergency Medical Service (SNEMS), effective immediately.

June 17, 2016 – The City of Thunder Bay is pleased to announce that after a thorough and rigorous search, Wayne Gates has been selected as the Chief of Superior North Emergency Medical Service (SNEMS), effective immediately. Gates has been acting in the position since October 2015.

“Wayne has done an outstanding job in the acting role and I am very pleased that he can now drop “acting” from his title and continue at the helm of SNEMS,” said Mark Smith, General Manager – Emergency & Development Services.

Chief Gates brings to the position a strong academic background and over 26 years of public service and has been with SNEMS since May 2001.

Prior to becoming Chief, Gates held both positions of Deputy Chief Operations and Deputy Chief of Professional Standards with SNEMS. He holds an Honours Bachelor of Applied Business in Emergency Service and received the Emergency Medical Services Exemplary Medal from the Governor General of Canada in 2008.

He started as a paramedic in 1986.
