THUNDER BAY — A Thunder Bay Police cyber crime investigation has led to multiple charges against a city man related to child exploitation.
Police say they began an investigation in May of this year into an internet user believed to have been uploading digital media files.
The files obtained by police revealed they were consistent with child pornography. Further investigation confirmed the files were associated with a local internet address.
On Aug. 18, police executed a search warrant at a residence in the 4000s block of Hilldale Road.
They seized several electronic devices, and learned that a man was posting as a person under 18 while contacting minors online and soliciting photos and videos from them.
Andrew Berezowski, 23, was taken into custody Wednesday.
He is charged with:
- possession of child pornography for the purpose of distribution or sale
- publication of an intimate image without consent
- making, printing, publishing or possessing child porn for the purpose of publication
- luring a person under 16 by means of telecommunication
- luring a person under 18 by means of telecommunication
- personation with intent (identity fraud)
Berezowski appeared in court Wednesday and was released with conditions and a future appearance date.
In a news release about the case, Thunder Bay Police said they encourage parents to consider having a conversation with their children about staying safe online.
