KENORA, Ont. – A man wanted in connection with the death of his seven-year-old stepson has been arrested in Kenora.
Niagara Regional Police Service say Justin Kuijer, 43, was taken into custody at about 6:15 p.m. EDT, thanks in part to a tip from a member of the public.
Kuijer allegedly killed seven-year-old Nathan Dumas and was wanted for the attempted murder of a bank employee in St. Catharines.
A Canada-wide warrant was issued for his arrest.
Niagara Regional Police Service, in a release issued on Tuesday night, say a 911 call was placed to the Kenora OPP. Kuijer’s 2009 Pontiac Montana van was located in a parking lot, with Kuijer inside. He was arrested without incident and is expected to be returned to the Niagara Region in the next few days.
Det.-Sgt. Brian Beich of the NRPS homicide division said he’s relieved to have the suspect in custody.
"We would like to thank the public, the media, and our law enforcement partners for their continued support over the last few days. Their efforts have led to the capture of Kuijer, and some small semblance of closure for the victims and their families,” Beich said in the release.
Police say they will make no further comment as the matter is before the courts.
None of the allegations against Kuijer have been proven in court.
