Rain or shine, there’s always music at Chippewa Park on Sundays in the summertime.
Luckily for concert-goers this Sunday, the sun was out in full force as bluegrass and roots band Twisted Canoe played the afternoon away. But traditional music isn’t the only thing on tap this summer for the event. Friends of Chippewa Park past president Dennis Woods said there will be rock, country, jazz and everything in between.
“We hit a broad spectrum,” he said. “It’s all here.”
While the genre may vary, there is one similarity between all of the acts.
“We do stress local talent. It gives them an avenue to expose to the public their talents,” Woods said.
Turnouts have been good since the concert series kicked off earlier this month but Woods said the park in general isn’t a mainstream place for people to visit. But he and the Friends are trying to change that.
“We’re trying to attract people out here and make this a destination for a weekend,” he said.
Woods said the number of visitors has been increasing in recent years.
