Christmas hampers were heading out the door Tuesday at the CLE Coliseum.

Officials with the Thunder Bay Christmas Cheer Fund say things are busier than ever this year.

Campaign chairwoman Linda Gambee said last year about 6,000 people were fed from the hampers. This year she said she expects that number to be around 6,600.

Gambee added she's seen increases throughout the past five years, due to the economy and other factors.

About a thousand volunteers have helped out this Christmas season to ensure everyone in need will have food to last well into the new year.

Gambee said this year's hampers are overflowing, but there's a downside.

Christmas Cheer hampers will also be available for pick-up Wednesday for those who have pre-registered.
