The Thunder Bay Christmas Cheer fund has passed the $100,000 mark, but organizers hope end-of-year donations will take the drive to its $128,000 goal.

Christmas Cheer this year paid for new toys for 3700 children, and food for a week (including provisions for a full turkey dinner) for 6700 people in need.

Chair Jolene Kemp said she's aware that many donors wait until after the holidays to write a cheque.

"Our treasurer tells us there have been cheques in the mail every time they go to our post office box," she said.

Kemp added that "it's quite remarkable what we were able to do (this year) so we're hoping that they won't forget us, and that when they do their giving that they remember to pop a cheque into the mail for us."

She said if many people do that, then "small amounts will bring us to our total."

Kemp is optimistic the $128,000 objective will be achieved, noting that  "Thunder Bay is very generous."
