Circle K replacing Mac's convenience store brand

Thunder Bay outlets are getting new signs

THUNDER BAY — One of the most familiar retail names in Thunder Bay is giving way to a new brand.

Couche-Tard, which owns the Mac's convenience store chain and thousands of stores in North America and Europe, is replacing its local store signs with new ones identifying them as Circle K outlets.

The giant Quebec-based company announced in 2015 that it would bring most of its convenience stores worldwide under the Circle K banner.

The rollout started in Canada in late 2016.

"This is a very labour-intensive process, as we have approximately 700 stores in Ontario to complete...Thunder Bay is now in the process of transitioning to the Circle K brand," said company spokesperson Sean Sportun.

The Mac's brand has been in existence in Canada for nearly 60 years,.

Thunder Bay has 16 Mac's outlets.
