THUNDER BAY — The Cirque Italia Water Circus' platinum unit has made a stop in the city this long weekend.
Cirque Italia is running under the white and blue big top tent across the street from the Intercity Shopping Centre from Friday to Monday, telling the story of a 1950s-obsessed adolescent who falls asleep and dreams of living in the era.
It features performers from Argentina, Brazil, Romania and many other countries, undertaking various low wire feats, contortion, trampoline antics, juggling and even a wheel of death.
“Not only do we have the classic circus acts that are going to wow you, but we also do incorporate the water,” said Kelly Ayala, a performer with Cirque Italia.
“And so, you’re going to see things you’ve never seen before, also with these amazing water effects, and if you’re sitting close enough, you might even get splashed.”
With Cirque Italia at the Intercity Shopping Centre, Ayala said they have seven chances for visitors to see the show this weekend.
“We have one show... Aug. (1st) at 7:30, three shows... Aug. 2nd at 1:30, 4:30 and 7:30. Two shows Sunday, Aug. 3rd, at 1:30 and 4:30 and one last show on Monday, Aug. 4th, at 7:30,” said Ayala.
She said visitors will see people who have been practicing and working on their crafts for many years and who are very talented.
“We’re performing for the people. We’re putting our lives on the line for the people to entertain everybody,” said Ayala.
Ayala added that those in Thunder Bay definitely don’t want to miss this show.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and there’s something in the show for everybody,” said Ayala.
“For the little ones all the way to Grandma and Grandpa, everybody’s going to enjoy it and they’re going to find something that they like and with the water, it’s something spectacular.”
Tickets range from $35 to $75 for children aged two to twelve and $45 to $80 for adults — one free child admission will also be included with every full-priced paying adult ticket in levels two or three.
