THUNDER BAY – The City of Thunder Bay has announced its call to artists for submissions for the 2023 snow sculpture competition which will be hosted by the Recreation & Culture Division as part of SnowDay on the Waterfront which takes place on Family Day.

The city says SnowDay on the Waterfront embraces winter with fun outdoor programming designed to get people outside and enjoying the season with the event's main attractions being the snow sculpture creations.

This year's theme is “Local Landmarks & Landscapes”, which the city says allows artists to submit concepts ranging from iconic architecture to natural formations that are reflective of our community, fun focused, and family friendly.

Professional artists, professional artist-led teams, organizations and community groups across the region and beyond are encouraged to apply.

“Thunder Bay has a rich tapestry of beautiful landscapes and historic landmarks to celebrate.  We look forward to this year's submissions and artists’ interpretations," said Louisa Costanzo, Cultural Development, Community Programming & Events supervisor.

“We’d also like to challenge local businesses, organizations and community groups to enter as a team-building exercise or friendly competition between themselves."

There are two separate application processes for submissions, one for professional artists and professional artist-led teams, and another for submissions by community groups and organizations.

The deadline for submissions is Jan. 11, 2023, at 11:59 p.m.
