NEWS RELEASE
CITY OF THUNDER BAY
*************************

THUNDER BAY – After delays due to weather and debris build-up from the prolonged winter, City of Thunder Bay’s bike lanes will be opening on Friday, May 20.

Bike lanes will remain open until November 15, if weather permits. Restrictions to on-street parking in designated bike lanes will be enforced during this period – check signage in your area.

“With the nice weather and increases in fuel prices, drivers may see increased bicycle traffic,” said Darrik Smith – Mobility Coordinator. “Drivers are asked to be aware of people riding their bikes, to respect the bike lanes, and to share the road by watching at intersections, giving space, and slowing down near bike riders.”

The bike lanes are a part of the City’s Active Transportation Network. Active transportation is a great activity as it helps build a healthy, vibrant and equitable community. Benefits can range from increasing personal fitness and wellness, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and reducing household transportation costs.
