Paramedics rushed a Thunder Bay transit driver to the hospital Friday afternoon following a crash on the city's north side.

The collision took place just before 1 p.m. The bus, which was heading east at the time of the incident, sustained extensive damage after it entered the intersection at Red River Road and Clarkson Street and collided with a commercial vehicle that was heading north.

The bus driver had to be extricated by Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue crews. He's since been released from hospital.

Police spokesman Chris Adams said Thunder Bay Police Service officers are still investigating the cause of the crash.
The driver of the commercial vehicle did not report having any injuries related to the incident.

The intersection was closed for about an hour after the crash.
