City celebrates winter with SnowDay on the Waterfront

THUNDER BAY – The City of Thunder Bay is inviting everyone to spend some time outside experiencing the best of winter at SnowDay on the Waterfront, set for Family Day, Monday, Feb. 17, from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m., at Prince Arthur’s Landing – Marina Park. SnowDay on the Waterfront is presented by Ontario Power Generation.

We are pleased to have six teams carving all weekend and bringing to life a unique vision of this year’s theme: Thunder Bay’s 50th Anniversary and Sports through the Ages. Voting for the snow sculpture’s People’s Choice Award will take place online this year. Highlights of the SnowDay 2020 program include:

· Thunder Bay’s 50th Anniversary and Sports through the Ages themed Snow Sculptures
· Double ice slide, ice ring toss, and photo opportunities at the photo booth and the TBAY ice feature from Iceculture Inc.
· Ice fishing with the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry
· Skating party with 99.9 The Bay and Country 105
· Bannock over the fire with the Thunder Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre (limited quantities available)
· Painted faces community snow wall mural with the Community Arts and Heritage Education Project (CAHEP)
· Campfire, storytelling and heritage hot chocolate with Parks Canada
· Space themed activities including: blackhole experiments, crater making, and gravity demonstrations with Science North
· Music by Maverick Entertainment Group
· Face painting with Our Kids Count
· Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra Trio performance in Mariners Hall
· Snow painting, outdoor games, and winter sports activities with the City of Thunder Bay’s Children and Youth Section
· Snow activities puzzle walk with Willow Springs Creative Centre
· Giant outdoor games, snow castle building, and bubble making
· Snowshoeing
· Pottery demonstrations by the Waterfront Potters inside the Baggage Building Arts Centre
· Delicious gourmet hot chocolate topped with all the fixings available for purchase inside the Baggage Building Arts Centre at “Mugs with Hugs” in support of the Dew Drop Inn
· Sponsor activations

Food and beverages will be available at Bight Restaurant, Bight’s Bait Shop, and Delta Hotels by Marriott™ Thunder Bay – Anchor & Ore.

Residents are also invited to come down to the Sunday Winter FunDay: Pre-SnowDay Fun which will take place on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2 pm – 5 pm, at Prince Arthur’s Landing – Marina Park. Outdoor activities include: a skating party, snow sculpture viewing, ice ring toss, and photo opportunities at the photo booth and the TBAY ice feature. Indoor activities include: creating yourself as a sport superhero with pre-made 3D stencils on 20x30 illustration boards with the Community Arts and Heritage Education Project (CAHEP) inside Mariner’s Hall.
