THUNDER BAY -- Crowds at advanced polls so far this week has Thunder Bay's city clerk optimistic about voter turnout this election.

The city has put a lot of effort into advertising and attracting voters, and while it's only the first day, things started out very well.

The West Thunder Community Centre was averaging about 100 voters per hour this afternoon. That number is slightly above what they saw in 2010.

The city also has a mobile voting trailer, which was set up Tuesday at the corner of Balmoral and William streets.

City Clerk and Chief Returning Officer John Hannam says he has heard from voters that they appreciate the new voter information website, and what it has to offer.

He says it's a bit early to tell what the total turnout will be like, but he was pleased to see a lineup going out of the door at West Thunder at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
