THUNDER BAY - The football field at St. Patrick High School will soon be replaced with artificial turf.

The Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board has scheduled a news conference for thursday morning, to announce the major facility upgrade.

The Catholic Board has already installed artificial turf at a pair of elementary schools, as a pilot project.

The outdoor areas for kindergarten students at St. Bernard and St. Martin schools was converted last summer, as a way to cut down on yard maintenance costs and dirt coming into the school.

At that time, school board officials said if the pilot project was a success, the artificial turf could be brought in at more schools around the city.

The price tag and other details for converting the St. Pat's football field are expected to be announced Thursday morning.
