THUNDER BAY -- City of Thunder Bay employees are getting ready to give in a big way.

City councillors rolled up their sleeves to serve lunch Thursday at the United Way Municipal Division Kick-Off Luncheon.

The municipal division includes employees of the City of Thunder Bay, Superior North EMS and the Thunder Bay Public Library.

The goal for this year is to raise $196,000.

The municipal division fundraising co-chair Kerri Marshall said this campaign is very important to city workers.

“There's a need in the community, one in three people access the services through the United Way,” Marshall said.

“As city employees we care about our community and we want to help build a strong community, so the folks can get access to services when they are in need.”

United Way Campaign co-chair Michael Nitz said the municipal campaign is the largest employee campaign, and everybody steps up in a huge way.

Since 1996 the municipal division has raised over 2.5 million dollars for the United Way.
