THUNDER BAY – Residents looking to do some camping close to home in 2023 can now book online.

The City of Thunder Bay launched an online reservation system for its two campgrounds — Trowbridge Falls and Chippewa Park — on Tuesday.

Camping is available at both sites between June 2 and Sept. 3.

Residents previously could book sites only by telephone or in person at the campground. Telephone booking will remain an option but was not immediately available Tuesday, with the city saying it would open soon.

The online booking system includes maps and images of each campsite, availability calendars, and flexible search and filter options. The city said the system, developed with Camis Software, is similar to the one used by Ontario Parks.

“We are pleased to release our new online reservation system to the public,” said Kaitlin Cain, the administrative support services supervisor with the city's infrastructure and operations division. “Thunder Bay’s municipal campgrounds are gems, and we hope that making it easier to evaluate and book sites will encourage more residents and visitors to experience them.”
