The local group known as the Friends of the Grain Elevators may not have the city behind them in regards to their longstanding venture.
The group has spent much of the past decade working on a plan to create a National Grain Industry Activity Centre in one of the city's abandoned grain elevators. City administration has tabled a recommendation for tonight’s meeting that council not endorse the project.
But city staff did suggest keeping in touch with the group as they seek funding from other levels of government.
Also on the agenda for Monday night’s regular scheduled council meeting, the new co-ordinator for the crime prevention council will be introduced. Amy Siciliano was hired for the position last month. The crime prevention council was announced at a breakfast in September.
Once the 26-member council is formed, Siciliano will lead the group in creating a plan to target and eliminate crime in the city.
City council is also expected to receive an update on the planning for the 2011 Ontario Special Olympics.
The event is being hosted in the city in January.
