The city had less employees in the sunshine club in 2012.
The province’s Public Sector Salary Disclosure List -- nicknamed the sunshine list -- reveals the annual salary of any public employee collecting six figure annual income. In 2012, the City of Thunder Bay had about 150 city employees on that list. In 2011, the city had about 244.
The latest list included more than 30 firefighters and more than 50 Thunder Bay Police Service employees. The city’s chief of police JP Levesque earned $203,000 last year, while
city manager Tim Commisso brought in $227,000.
Although the city saw a drop, Lakehead University increased its six-figure salary earners.
The university had 268 employees making six figures in 2012. That’s 27 more compared to 2011. The university’s president Brian Stevenson took home the highest salary at $360,000.
Confederation College maintained its 2011 sunshine population 2011 with 76 employees making $100,000 or more. President Jim Madder brought home the highest salary at $226,000.
The number of employees who disclosed their salaries increased by 11 per cent from last year’s list. In 2011, 79,000 made the list to 88,000 in 2012.
The average salary over six-figures saw a slight decrease to about $127,525 from $127,566 in 2011.
The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences had 81 employees on the list with President and CEO Andrée Robichaud at the top with $389,000.
Lakehead Public Schools’ roughly 60 employees were led by director Catherine Siemieniuk’s $195,000.
MPP Michael Gravelle (Lib. Thunder Bay – Superior North) made $165,851 as Minister of Natural Resources while MPP Bill Mauro (Lib. Thunder Bay – Atikokan) made $133,217 as Parliamentary Assistant to the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines.
The salaries reflect the province’s wage freeze for MPPs, which was extended for two more years.
