THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay residents can take advantage of free parking meant to support local shopping as of Friday.
The Thunder Bay Parking Authority is hoping to boost local holiday shopping by making parking free in the city’s downtown cores in the run-up to Christmas.
Residents can park free for up to two hours at street meters and metered lots from Dec. 17 to 24.
Fees will still be charged for the city’s two parkades.
In a release, the Parking Authority said it hoped the move would encourage residents to support local businesses in the downtowns.
