City paid council members more than $604,000 in remuneration and expenses

Mayor Keith Hobbs was the top-paid elected city official last year, cracking the $94,000 barrier. Hobbs was also paid $15,624 for work-related expenses in 2013.

In 2012 the city paid council members a total of $604,766 collectively in remuneration and expenses.

Council will receive a report Monday outlining the amount of money paid to each councillor for their services provided as a member of council.

They will also see statements on how much each person appointed by council to local boards -- like the Thunder Bay Police Service, Thunder Bay Hydro or TBayTel Municipal Services Boards -- were paid or expensed.

The more than $604,000 paid to council is up $18,500 from 2011 and $110,500 was paid to Hobbs - $89,607 for his mayor’s salary, $5,300 for time spent on other boards and more than $15,000 in expenses.

All other council members made between $34,000 and $45,000 with the exception of Westfort Coun. Joe Virdiramo whose remuneration was $43,200 and expenses were $7,000 to come in just over $50,000.

On the TBayTel Municipal Services Board, chairman Michael Power received $31,300 in remuneration and expenses and former mayor Lynn Peterson was paid $42,000.
