THUNDER BAY — One person has been transported to hospital by paramedics, say police, in an incident that resulted in the closure of High Street on Thursday.
The extent of that person's injuries is not known, according to a media release issued by police just after 4:30 p.m.
"The major crimes unit is involved in the ongoing investigation," said the release.
City police closed off roughly half a block of High Street near Port Arthur Stadium on Thursday.
Police said the public may notice a visible police presence as they continue their investigation in the area.
Two police cruisers were observed blocking off a section of the thoroughfare with police tape, starting about halfway between Hester Street and Inchiquin Street south to Inchiquin.
North-south traffic was observed detouring down the side streets.
Police said that primary response officers responded to a call for service in the 300 block of High Street South shortly after noon on Thursday.
High Street's east-side sidewalk was also closed off in the area between the two police vehicles. The west-side one remained open.
Police say there is no current threat to public safety, and no further information is available, but updates will be provided once available.
High Street was reopened to traffic by Thursday evening.
