City of Thunder Bay release
THUNDER BAY – After the success of the community art project Threading Water, which was completed for Great Art for Great Lakes in 2017, the city is partnering again with local artist Betty Carpick for Birds of the Bay, a project to help families understand and protect nature through community-engaged art.
The project invites people of all ages and abilities to share their relationships with birds that reside in Thunder Bay during maker sessions held at the Baggage Building Arts Centre between 1 pm and 3 pm during Winter Fundays. Six fibre arts bird sculptures will be made by tying, weaving and stitching on wire armatures. All sessions are free of charge and open for families to attend as often as they choose. The completed sculptures will be unveiled at the Thunder Bay Art Gallery on Sunday, Feb. 18, and displayed throughout Marina Park at SnowDay on the Waterfront, Feb. 19.
