City responds to New Year’s snowplow complaints

Officials with the City of Thunder Bay roads division are responding to complaints about the number of snowplows and sander trucks on city streets during the New Year's weekend.
Officials with the City of Thunder Bay roads division are responding to complaints about the number of snowplows and sander trucks on city streets during the New Year's weekend.

Many residents had complained about what they believed was a noticeable lack of road crews on Jan. 1, which followed wet snow and a flash freeze that came at the end of 2010.

Thunder Bay Police say they received reports about 18 collisions around the city on Jan. 2, but police are blaming the motorists themselves for driving too fast.

The city’s roads manager Brad Adams says the city had full staff on duty on New Year’s Day.

Adams added that most of the snowplowing on the main city streets took place in the middle of the night, which may explain why many residents said they didn't see plows or salt trucks operating this past weekend.
