THUNDER BAY - In an effort to create a community with net-zero carbon emissions, more input is needed from the public on energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
EarthCare Thunder Bay is launching the second phase of its Community Energy and Emissions Plan with virtual public engagement.
An online survey will be available until May 31 and allow members of the public to help prioritize low-carbon action selection criteria.
“Residents are encouraged to participate and have their say as we work to set a path to achieve community-wide net-zero carbon emissions by 2050,” said Summer Stevenson, acting sustainability coordinator. “We understand that these are unprecedented times; however, the community plays an important role in moving this Plan forward.”
The Community Energy and Emissions Plan was launched in January 2020 and EarthCare is conducting a community-wide energy use and greenhouse gas emissions inventory.
The goal is to create an action plan that will see the community being carbon neutral by 2050.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, community engagement will be taking place online. But according to EarthCare, energy planning and creating sustainable communities is still just as important as ever.
