THUNDER BAY -- David Allan Grant's hometown devastated and surprised him in less than 12 hours.
The guitarist and his band Poor Young Things returned to Thunder Bay Saturday for a near sellout show at Crocks after the latest of several big years for the band on the Canadian music scene.
After the show he went to say hello to fans, friends and family. When he got back to the stage his Gibson ES-335, a guitar he's played 1,000 shows with after paying someone in Nashville to select it specifically for him, was gone.
After asking nearly everyone in the bar if they'd seen the guitar and even getting security to look at footage, Grant realized he'd taken that guitar with him across North America only to have it stolen in his hometown.
"It was kind of devastating," he said.
"To have it solen and taken from me in my hometown, I was taken aback by it."
Grant made a post on social media. Friends even set up a Go Fund Me page to help him replace it. But almost as quickly as the town devastated him, someone who knew the guitar's whereabout hand delivered it to Grant within 12 hours of it being taken.
"I can't describe that. It was just like my friend was back," he said. "The whole city came together and brought me back to my guitar."
Poor Young Things play Prince Arthur's Landing as part of Rogers Hometown Hockey next month. You can listen to their single 'Like an Animal' from their latest record 'Force of Nature' here.
