THUNDER BAY —  The deadline for replies to a request for expressions of interest in developing an indoor turf facility in Thunder Bay has passed.

City residents, however, will have to wait until later this fall to find out what kind of response the City of Thunder Bay received.

A spokesperson told TBNewswatch the city is not disclosing how many proposals it received between the last week of July and Sept. 3.

The submissions are now being evaluated.

After review, city administration will prepare a report for city council.

It's expected to produce a short list of proponents in October.

The city invited submissions from  potential partners interested in providing both a short-term solution and a long-term solution to the community's need for a multi-use covered turf facility.

The city's preferred site remains Chapples Park but it has said that other options will be considered.

The city is also waiting for a decision from the federal government on its application for funding from the Green and Inclusive Community Building Program.

It's the same program the Thunder Bay Art Gallery has applied to for its planned new building on the waterfront.

Fort William First Nation has also asked for $25 million from that fund to build a long-term care home on the reserve.
