THUNDER BAY -- The city is likely to receive less from gas tax funding this year.

The province announced the allocation of this year's gas tax funding for municipalities. That announcement put the gas tax funding at $1.9 million for the city, which is about $52,000 less than it received in 2015.

The gas tax fund was created in 2004 to help assist municipal transit operations.

The money is received based on the amount a city or town spends on fuel throughout the year.

Much of the gas tax funding the city receives this year will go toward the transit operating budget.
