THUNDER BAY -- The City of Thunder Bay is under a severe thunderstorm watch.

According to Environment Canada, dangerous thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts, hail and heavy rain could occur in the city, starting early on Sunday afternoon.

Gusts could reach as high as 100 kilometres an hour.

More thunderstorms could appear later in the afternoon.

Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
