THUNDER BAY – Nominations have opened for the City of Thunder Bay’s annual Women’s History Month exhibit, honouring women who have made notable contributions to the community’s history.

Nominations are due by July 1, with successful inductees launched on the website of the city archives in October, coinciding with Women’s History Month celebrations.

The archives has been adding profiles of new women to the exhibit every October since 2013. A full list of inductees is available online, along with biographies and photos.

“Every year the variety of the contributions these women make to our life changes,” said archives manager Matt Szybalski. “For example, last year we added racial and gender equality advocate, author, poet, and educator Annette Pateman; healthcare advocate and politician Grace Ann Biggs Remus; competitive gymnast Jennifer Hunter; educator and community activist (Phyllis) Diane Scott; and National Memorial Silver Cross Mother Rose Alice Louise Bernst.”

Submissions should include a brief biographical sketch highlighting the nominee’s significance to Thunder Bay, along with some images, including copyright or attribution notes.

Submissions can be emailed to [email protected]. More information and an alternate snail mail address is available at the city’s website. Residents can call the archives at 625-2270 for further details.
