THUNDER BAY – City workers have extended their strike deadline until 12:01 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 7.

Thunder Bay municipal officials on Tuesday said the leadership of Local 87 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees will vote on the city’s latest offer before making any decision on job action.

“The union is consulting with its membership and it is going to hold a vote on the city’s most recently tabled set of proposals,” said city manager Norm Gale in an emailed release issued just before 3 a.m. on Tuesday.

“There will be no strike until the vote has been held and the results of that vote are known.”

“The union has informed us that there is a new strike deadline of 12:01 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 7, 2016.”

Gale said this is the final update he will provide to media until the vote takes place.
