THUNDER BAY -- The Ministry of Labour is looking for input around the province on how to reduce the gender wage gap.

Here in Ontario, the gap between men and women currently sits at about 31.5 percent.  In Thunder Bay, that number is one of the lowest in the province at 27.4 percent, but it's still a major gap.

The Gender Wage Steering Committee, made up of four members, is hosting a series of consultation sessions.

The goal is to listen to members of the public, and develop recommendations.

Emanuela Heyninck is one of the committee members. She says they want to hear experiences from both men and women in the workforce, and about the barriers and-or factors that may contribute to the gap.

The next town hall meetings are scheduled for Ottawa and Cornwall.

Ontarians can provide feedback to the Ministry of Labour until Jan. 15.
