Classic car clubs donate $10K to Camp Quality

Sixth annual poker run to help pay for kids with cancer to go to camp each summer

THUNDER BAY -- Car clubs in Thunder Bay on Thursday turned over $10,000 to Camp Quality.

The money was raised through the club’s sixth annual poker run, which challenged participants to make their way to seven businesses around town, select a playing card from a deck and build the best five-card hand.

Rene Lindqvist, chairman of the Thunder Bay District Car Clubs, said a number of clubs got together six years ago to start the charity poker run and Camp Quality was the perfect fit.

“We can’t do enough for kids who unfortunately have that disease.”

Over the years they’ve given about $50,000 to Camp Quality.

“It’s just a great endeavour and it’s a fun day,” Lindqvist said.

Camp Quality’s Rosa Carlino said the money will go a long way to helping cover costs of sending children with or recovering from cancer to camp each summer.

“We truly, truly appreciate it. The money goes toward us maintaining our year-long events for Camp Quality. Our signature event is a week-long camp week where kids and their siblings get to come and just have fun for an entire week and not think about the things that go along with having cancer,” Carlino said.
