THUNDER BAY — Thunder Bay Fire Rescue continues to look into the cause of an early-morning fire that forced the evacuation of a three-storey apartment building on Dawson Street.

The alarm was called in at 4:30 Monday morning after a blaze broke out in one unit on the ground floor of the Dawson Apartments near Algoma Street.

Firefighters arrived to find flames shooting through a window.

Three adults and a dog who had been in the apartment escaped but the residents were taken to hospital after initial treatment on the scene.

In a brief update Monday afternoon, a spokesperson for the fire service said none of the individuals remained at the hospital.

Damage to the unit where the fire started is extensive.

There's also smoke damage in other apartments.

A cleanup crew was on the scene removing damaged items.
