Clerk scares off would-be robber by producing bigger knife

Man sought in attempted armed robbery of popular south-side bakery
Police station

THUNDER BAY -- In a scene ripped from the script of Crocodile Dundee, a clerk with a bigger knife than that of a suspect wanted in an attempted armed robbery Wednesday managed to scare off a would-be thief.

Thunder Bay Police, in a release issued hours after the incident, said a lone male armed  with a knife entered the European Bakery and Pizza on Simpson Street just after 8 p.m.

He attempted to rob the lone clerk in the business, but the victim held up a larger knife, which panicked the suspect, who fled into the night.

The accused was last seen running into the East End via an underpass leading from Simpson Street.

The suspect is described as an Aboriginal male.

Police are asking anyone who might have information about the attempted robbery to phone them at 684-1200.
