The court battle over an access route to the Ring of Fire will continue.

Officials with Cliffs Natural Resources have reportedly filed an appeal over last month's rejection of its plans by the Mining and Lands Commissioner.

Cliffs wants to build a 300-kilometre access road to the mining site. But the route where that road would be built falls on mining claims staked by KWG Resources.

KWG wants to build a railway to the Ring of Fire, and won't allow Cliffs to use it for a road.

The commissioner released his ruling on Sept. 10, dismissing Cliffs' application to allow access on the KWG mining claims.

According to KWG, they were recently served with a notice of appeal on behalf of Cliffs.

Officials with Cliffs were unavailable for  comment.

In a previous interview with Thunder Bay Television, the company said an appeal could take up to five years to be heard and decided in court.
