TORONTO - Provincial parks will stay closed at least through the end of May due to COVID-19 concerns, the government announced Saturday morning in a statement.

The announcement, issued by Minister of Health Christine Elliott and Minister of the Environment, Conservation, and Parks Jeff Yurek, extends previously announced closures of all provincial parks and conservation reserves by an additional month.

"We understand this extension may impact many Ontarians' plans during the month of May," the statement reads in part. "However, the health and well-being of Ontarians is our government's number one priority."

Those with camping reservations will receive a full refund, the province said. Those with reservations later in the year who wish to change or cancel them may also do so free of charge.
