THUNDER BAY — The Canadian Coast Guard has closed its Thunder Bay search and rescue station for the season.

The motor lifeboat Cape Chaillon is now out of service on Lake Superior until next spring.

Any winter search and rescue operations will be carried out by the Canadian or U.S. Coast Guards using icebreakers and other available vessels, if required.

Aircraft from the Department of National Defence and the U.S. Coast Guard may also be involved in search and rescue operations if necessary.

Marine emergencies can be reported 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, at 1-800-267-7270 or via marine VHF radio on channel 16.
