The faculty at Ontario’s 24 community colleges accepted what their employer had called its final offer.

A spokesman for the colleges told the Canadian Press Wednesday that the Ontario Labour Relations Board confirmed that a 51.4 per cent majority accepted the offer in a province-wide vote.

The favourable voting results came in nearly a month ago, but the closeness of those results led the union representing faculty to ask for the review. That review concluded Wednesday afternoon.

Students at colleges across the province, including at this area’s Confederation College, were on edge as the voting results were left in limbo. Had the review revealed that faculty did not accept the college’s offer, a labour dispute could have disrupted a part of the academic year.

The Ontario Public Service Employees Union represents faculty at Ontario Colleges.

OPSEU officials said the review was needed because voting results were separated by a margin of only 200 votes. Also, 300-mail in ballots still needed to be counted when those results were released.
