It’s time for graduates of the college film program to sit back, relax and enjoy the show.

After two years or writing, editing and shooting 17 second-year film projects will be shown on the big screen at Silver City Thursday for the annual Conflix show. And they want to pack the house with as many members of the public as they can for two free viewings.

“It’s a really big process,” film student Jason Thacker said. “This year they’re all very cinematic it’s going to be some pretty good entertainment.”

Thacker said there are a lot of science fiction films on the reel this year, including his. The short, called “Lights in the Sky” is about a man who discovers an alien invasion.

“But no one believes him and he has to sort of struggle against his own sanity and the impending invasion,” Thacker said. “It should be pretty fun. Hopefully people will like it.”

And Thacker, like other filmmakers, hopes that enough people like the film that he can bring it to some festivals. For those not into Science Fiction, there are plenty of other genres to enjoy.

“There’s a wide range there’s something for everyone there,” he said.

The 7 p.m. showing is all ages. The students have edited any mature subject matter to fit the bill. At 9.m. the films are shown uncut for an adult crowd. Thacker encourages people to get there early as seats usually fill up fast.
