THUNDER BAY – Confederation College plans to move ahead with hybrid programming when classes resume.

School officials on Thursday said they’ve spent the past few weeks coming up with a framework to ensure students both this year and next can complete their course work in a timely fashion.

Any student who was unable to compete their program studies scheduled between January and April will be scheduled to return to labs or work placements as soon as permissible under Ontario’s COVID-19 restrictions.

Spring and summer students, whose course ran between May and August, will return in what’s being termed a 6-1-6 format – with the first six weeks being offered for online and alternated delivery. Following a week break, and with the approval of public health officials, students in many courses will return to labs in a face-to-face format where online or alternate delivery is not available.

Dates for the practical component will be confirmed directly with students as the information becomes available.

The fall semester will be a standard 7-1-7 format, with all theory being delivered remotely and some labs or placements delivered face-to-face, as long as physical distancing can be followed. Work or clinical placements will be deferred for students who cannot attend because of pandemic restrictions.
