One person is in hospital with severe injuries after hitting a dump truck in a three-vehicle collision in the town of Marathon.

Ontario Provincial Police were called to the scene on Peninsula Road at the Peninsula Golf Course entrance around 9:10 a.m. Tuesday.

A first SUV had stopped to let a dump truck pass before turning into the golf course road, police reported. A second SUV traveling behind the first turned into the oncoming lane to avoid hitting the first SUV, and collided with the dump truck.

The driver of the second SUV had to be extracted from their vehicle by the Marathon Fire Department and was taken to hospital with severe injuries by paramedics.

The driver of the first SUV obtained minor injuries and was checked and released in hospital, the OPP reported.

The dump truck’s driver and passenger were both released at the scene with no injuries.

The accident closed Peninsula Road for approximately an hour for the extraction, investigation, and removal of debris. The investigation is ongoing, police said.
