Collision sends pedestrian to hospital

THUNDER BAY -- A woman was taken to hospital after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Dawson Road and the Thunder Bay Expressway.

Emergency crews responded to the incident, which happened around 11 p.m. on Monday night.

Superior North EMS paramedics responded and transported the person to hospital. Provincial police on Tuesday morning said the woman suffered injuries that are not life threatening.

Police said the woman entered the intersection on a red light and was struck by a van travelling west on the highway.

Officers with the OPP and Thunder Bay Police Service were on scene providing traffic control. The intersection had been closed to through traffic travelling along Red River Road and Dawson Road. Highway traffic is limited, though eastbound vehicles are able to proceed.
