The Thunder Bay Railway Historical Society and the Heritage Transportation Committee held a public meeting Thursday night to discuss the future options for the city's historic trains and buses.
The meeting was held at the Unifor Hall. Members from the two groups were sharing updates about the historic CN Rail Caboose and Via Rail passenger train, both of which need to be restored along with the proposed Lakehead Transportation Museum.
Chair for the Heritage Transportation committee Charlie Brown says all of these projects need community support.
The Caboose located at Prince Arthur's landing will be restored to its former glory with new wood siding and a fresh coat of orange paint. Assessments on how to restore the Via Train located at the Kam River Heritage Park have begun.
The train needs exterior metal repair and paint among other things, although the interior is still pristine.
Brown adds that the goal is to eventually have the caboose and Via Train inside the Lakehead Transportation Museum.
