MARATHON, ON — Confederation College on Wednesday marked the official opening of a new location for its Northshore campus in Marathon.
The 3,400-square-foot facility includes a mix of classrooms, a computer lab and a student lounge, with advanced technologies integrated throughout.
"The space has been completely renovated and is very modern," said Sandra Turner, director of the Thunder Bay college's Rainy River District and Eastern campuses.
"Both staff and students have expressed their appreciation for the new space, especially in relation to the new equipment and furniture," Turner said.
The facility includes longstanding partner Contact North.
Although now physically separated from the Marathon High School, college officials said the Northshore campus maintains its strong ties to the school and the Superior-Greenstone District School Board, with "pathways" for students including dual-credit programming.
College President Kathleen Lynch also attended the celebration.
Lynch said the move to a "store-front" location supports the goal of being more visible and accessible for students, prospective students, partners and community.
"It lets everyone quickly know that we are here for them and that they are welcome on campus," she said.
The Marathon location had an enrollment of 13 post-secondary students and 44 dual-credit students in the most recent school year.
