The Wawa campus opened its doors Friday with an official ribbon cutting and an open house for the community. The campus is one of Confederation College’s eight regional sites.

“We are very proud of our program delivery within the communities we serve,” Bob Backstrom, vice-president corporate services for Confederation College, is quoted as saying in a college news release issued Friday.

“We listen to the leadership and gear much of our academic programming to the current demands in each marketplace.  This has proven to be highly successful within our more senior regional locations and we anticipate it will be no different here.”

He added that being able to offer people courses in their hometown is significant and should be a boon to the community and its local economy.

The Wawa campus will offer a variety of one-year certificate programs and two-year diploma programs this fall.

Programs offered include accounting, human resources, hospitality management, pre-health sciences and mining techniques.

"We are pleased to welcome Confederation College to Wawa and take pride in the creation of our Training and Technology Centre,” said Wawa’s mayor, Linda Nowicki.
