A newly-formed partnership between Confederation College and Northern College is bringing more mining education to Thunder Bay.
Students enrolled in the Mining Techniques Certificate Program will now have the option to gain a diploma. The new program to be launched this fall will give students the option to take on an additional semester.
Mining is on the upswing in the region,and Confederation College wants to offer training closer to home.
With the geographical challenges that are often faced in the Northwest, the college thinks this is the perfect time to launch this pilot program.
Madder says the arrangement between the two schools stemmed from a memorandum of understanding that was recently signed by six colleges in Northern Ontario.
