THUNDER BAY — Confederation College says the impact of COVID-19 is a factor in its decision to suspend enrolment in two programs, and postpone intake in two others.
The college on Monday announced that it is not accepting students for September, 2020 enrolment in Digital Media Production, nor in Tourism – Travel and Eco-Adventure.
It cited "ongoing pandemic restrictions" as well as low enrolment in the two programs.
Both programs will be further reviewed in the coming months.
As well, the college is deferring September 2020 intake for the Aerospace Manufacturing Engineering Technician and Embedded Systems (international) programs until January 2021, due to pandemic-related restrictions.
"We know this will be disappointing for our confirmed students," said Neil Cooke, vice-president/academic.
Cooke added "It is disappointing to us as well; however, with their academic success in mind, the decision was necessary to ensure our students continue to receive the exceptional quality of education for which we are known."
The announcement stated that the college continues to prepare for the fall semester, planning programming with a hybrid delivery model that blends online/alternate delivery with face-to-face delivery where feasible.
All theory programming will be delivered remotely.
Some labs and/or placements may be delivered face-to-face while ensuring that physical distancing protocols are followed.
